I’ve got an angel

by on Oct.23, 2007, under Humorous

Many arguments have been started with a statement of this sort, but I’m cemented in my beliefs.  Angels exist.  I have one that follows me throughout my life.  Always at the ready, he sees everything that happens to me in the course of a day, and if necessary, he intervenes.

His job? To screw with me, of course.

His latest attempt to break my spirit goes something like this:

First, some information.  My sleep schedule, if allowed to, will actually reverse itself, to the point that I find myself sleeping during the day.  That would never do when you’re part of a family, so I go to bed incredibly late, and get up earlier than I would like.  This keeps me from shifting my sleep schedule, but it also puts me in debt, in regards to sleep.  After a month or so of this, I get so tired that one night, I’ll just go to bed at about 9-11pm simply because I can’t keep my eyes open.  A solid 8-9 hours of sleep will allow me to start the sleep deprivation cycle all over again.

Last night was that night of renewal.  I found myself nodding off at my desk at 9:30 and before I could wake up fully, I got ready for bed and had my eyes shut by 10pm.

At 11:30, I awoke to hysterical crying.  My wife had already taken charge of the situation, but the jist of it was this: our daughter’s foot had gone to sleep and waking up to that allowed her to realize that she also had a sore throat.  After putting her back to bed, we laid in bed until we realized that neither of us could go back to sleep.  Back to the desk we went, and worked on the computers until about 1:30am.  Still hoping to get some decent sleep, I  nodded off again.

6:30am:  Crying again.  Sore throat and incredibly unhappy about it. Back out of bed with eyes that feel like they’ve had sand poured into them.

My angel is real. He lets me know that he cares.
