We do it because it’s fun. Really.

by schwim on Mar.28, 2008, under Humorous

Long, tall & ugly.

The dawning of Adventure Thursday found me drinking my second cup of coffee and wondering how much weight I would need to lose before I would be able to see my toes again while standing up. I eventually decided that it would be easier just to ask others to check on my feet every once in a while.

I had hoped that Orthoguy would pick something to do today that would gently ease us back into spring. Nothing too strenuous, but something that got us outside. Maybe kite flying or bubble blowing.

I arrived at Oguy’s house and we loaded up the Jeep after he explained that MXCR and LL100 had a new cache out. Alarm bells went off in my head. I smiled uncertainly as I contemplated “accidentally” getting my foot crushed under the wheel of the Jeep. I decided against it. I would later regret this decision.

What would Jesus do?

by schwim on Mar.23, 2008, under Miscellaneous

Well, if he was hanging out with team Angry Beaver today, he would be four wheeling and geocaching.

I not a big fan of holidays. It’s not that I have anything against them. I just don’t like participating in the pomp and circumstance that surrounds them. I don’t like family get-togethers, I don’t like tradition solely for the sake of tradition and I sincerely distrust people that do like these things.

it shall be called Memory Magnification

by schwim on Mar.16, 2008, under Humorous

I was thinking tonight. I decided that I’m either a subconscious gay, or I’m a hermaphrodite and just haven’t found my other gear yet. I’m lacking the required levels of testosterone to be able to be a card carrying member of the male species.

It’s true. My reasoning behind this is because of many aspects, not just any one thing. Team sports don’t interest me. I don’t belong to any sort of clubs. I don’t drink. I can’t tolerate golf, poker or any other activity that provides the same level of activity as either gardening or watching TV. I’m missing that whole male camaraderie thing as well. I’ve lived in my house for 4 years now and have never had anyone over to jam, watch Magic Johnson play a child’s game or get drunk on the porch while our poker chips fall through the cracks in the patio table.

That’s not the reason I’m worried for my manhood though. My main concern is that I’m missing that whole machismo mechanism. Guys my age have to convert everything they do into something more extreme. Everything. Seriously. It’s part of the memory making process for a guy. They do it, it’s inflated while being written to the gray matter and then they share it with the world.

Case in point; I frequent a 4 wheel drive forum often. During that time, I usually hang around and read threads while waiting to resolve whatever issue I have. I get to read a lot of ride reports. There are pictures in these reports.

How could you manipulate that, you ask? In what possible way could they contaminate the graphical representation of their time out wheeling? Well, I’m going to let you guess, but to help, I will show you what normal, everyday pictures would look like if we followed their picture taking process:

There’s something awful going on at Disney.

by schwim on Mar.07, 2008, under Humorous

If the name Richard “Lowtax” Kyanka rings any bells, it’s probably because you are either a ne’er-do-well, destined to sit on your fat ass while the world passes you by, or you sued him for libel.  He runs the Something Awful community, an online band of ruffians and miscreants, intent on poking fun at the real world and making it’s inhabitants mad enough to beat anyone within range with any blunt object that happens to be handy.

It goes without saying that I read the SA site often, enjoying  the hatred-laden diatribes as well as the ridicule injected mockumentaries designed to poke fun at real people with real problems.

I thought that Mr. Kyanka was above the trials and tribulations that us mere mortals must endure in the real world.  He seemed set apart from the lower echelon of society and above the daily grind.  After all, he was the leader of the SA goons; the people that held everyone in disdain.

It seems that he’s either duped us, or absolutely nobody is safe.

Read the sordid details.

Microsoft; Today’s King Midas…

by schwim on Mar.04, 2008, under Software

The browser of the future….

With this small exception: everything they touch turns to a steaming pile of shit.

Take Internet Explorer 8. In their tried-and-true “dazzle ‘em with bullshit” mode, Microsoft is touting IE 8 as the next great leap in browsing the web. How so? Well, they passed the acid2 test.

A little late to the party, but hey, it’s something right?

Oh, and let’s not forget <meta http-equiv=“X-UA-Compatible” content=“edge” />.

What the hell is that? It’s Microsoft trying to totally fuck up the internet again.

Now accepting applications for my entourage

by schwim on Mar.02, 2008, under Humorous, Music

I’m going to record an album.

I have no doubt that it is going to be a really bad album, but I don’t think I have a choice in the matter.

I had convinced myself that I was past the age where things like recording your first album occured.

Then I read about Jonathan.
