Well, let’s just ask the Magic Eight Ball

Crude oil saw the largest jump in a single day($11) recently, bring the price for a barrel of crude to $138.00.
Why the big jump? Did we lose another pipeline? Hurricane taking out our vast number of oil rigs in the gulf? Did someone forget to hang up the pump hose after filling up and pour all the gas all over the ground?
No, the price rose $11 in one day because they said it was going to. To be more clear, the price rose after predictions were made that oil would hit $150 by July fourth.
This is ingenious. Big oil has finally set aside the false pretenses and disposed of the tiresome stories that everyone quit believing long ago. Now they can just tell you that it rose in price because it was supposed to. They don’t need a reason.
Neener, neener.
On a completely unrelated note, unemployment saw the largest single month jump in twenty years. What? I’m not making a correlation, I’m just making small talk.
And you guys that pleaded for the government to step in and help? That whole ethanol fiasco is working out great, isn’t it? Rising food costs for a less efficient fuel that is rising in price in direct relation to gasoline.
The upside to this is that we don’t have to worry about a revolt. When everyone runs out of money, it will happen on it’s own.

Not to worry, Schwim! Your illustrious senators are on the job, ready to help. Those on the right have decided maybe if we start now … we can drill our way out of this. They don’t really think we need lower prices, but they would certainly like to sell more gas at existing rates. Those on the left have decided instead to just tax the windfall profits on existing supplies.
Yeah, buddy! There’s some serious leadership skills on display back there inside the beltway!
In the meantime, El Paso, TX residents can now get a little, “Payback” by invading Ciudad Juarez and buying up all that nice cheap Mexican gas.
Helluva silly world, ain’t it?

If my apathy were not at an all-time high, I would be incensed, neigh, enraged at the underhanded tricks perpetrated by those sworn to protect me, my rights and my freedoms. Since it is at an all-time high though, all I can muster is the desire for a PB&J sandwich.

It seems we should pity the Poor Oil Companies: http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2008/06/09/daily96.html and embrace the big jump in prices: http://uk.reuters.com/article/reutersComService_3_MOLT/idUKN1336711920080613 Meanwhile, the Saudis are messing up the plan: http://uk.reuters.com/article/Internal_ReutersCoUkService_6/idUKZWE23463620080612
This would all drive me to drink, but I can’t afford the gas for the drive ($4.30/gal. at the corner mart). Think I’ll walk instead. BTW, we negotiate with every country in the world over crap, why not guarantee a fixed price to a suitable oil-producing country and agree to pay above market for their other exports? In short, one-on-one barter that takes us out of the world market? Just another idiotic idea from one of the Great Unwashed.

The only frustrating aspect of the whole situation is the fact that solutions to our dilemna are plentiful. It’s just not profitable to alleviate the burden. It would be a foolish hope that we will ever see a change for the better but I would at least hope that people would acknowledge the screwing that they are being bent over for.
