I told you so.

I’ve told you before that American cars were pieces of shit and the manufacturers didn’t deserve to prosper. Someone with the same sentiment and more talent than I released this to the intardnet.
Buy our cars. Seriously. We need the money.

Not so humorous, but have you noticed the $300 million plant that GM just opened in November in St. Petersburg, Russia, building SUV’s and Chevvys? Gee, they just put our workers on a month-long layoff and are closing US plants left and right!
Oh, and Chrysler; the other recipient of the bailout? Private corporation, of course, which is owned 19.9% by Daimler and 80.1% by Cerebus Capital Management. Never heard of Cerebus? Well, it’s a 24 billion dollar holding corp. which refuses to lend any money to Chrysler. Yeah, let’s let our tax bucks take up the slack and protect their investment! And, a couple of names might be interesting too. The chief spokesman for Cerebus and one of the guys heading up the international operations is…. Dan Quayle, VP under George Bush,Sr. And, CEO? Well, that would be John W. Snow, second Secretary of the Treasury under George Bush, Jr. and predecessor to Henry Paulson.
Nice work, Dubya, Daddy will be so proud!
So, our tax bucks go to support a corporation determined to hire cheap foreign labor rather than pay Americans and to the pals of the outgoing administration. Bob will be talking to the wife about buying a Harley for the next vehicle. I assume that Harley’s are still built in the US? (Of course, the -20F. weather might make it a difficult chat :-=O)

If you decide to use a Harley in your neck of the woods, be sure to take a heavy blunt object along to break the snotcicles before they get long enough to impale you in the event of an accident. You have no idea how many fatalities are caused by snotcicle impalement annually.
It’s the killer that nobody likes to talk about.
As for our grand poobah giving his partners a helping hand with our wallet; I know you well enough to know you don’t find our gov’t to be above such shenanigans but dammit, your post sounded almost like you were aghast that it could happen.
Nobody can figure out why, in spite of the upswings in the economy(both real and falsely perpetuated by such cheap tricks as incentive checks), Americans refuse to buy American.
How can you try to talk someone into buying something from a company, that in spite of it’s dominant position in the marketplace, can not keep from going bankrupt? People have blindly bought the crap that they sell out of a misplaced sense of patriotism(MORAN!) and they still couldn’t manage to whether the very beginning of an economical downturn.
They won’t go away. The gov’t will be sure of that. I do hope that the major holders of the company lose an assload of money in the interim, however. That thought makes me smile.

I’ve always thought that company directors and executives would behave more responsibly and produce better results if shareholders could vote to hang them. At least it would make life interesting ……
“So, Rick, what brings you to the front lines in Afghanistan?”
“Well, Alan, I thought about going into business, what with my MBA ‘n’ all, but I just couldn’t grapple with the risks to life and limb.”

There is the added benefit that you would learn better ethics and morals from the Taliban than from your fellow board members.
It’s a no-lose situation, really.
