But we really, really need it!

by schwim on Jan.27, 2009, under Humorous

It came to light that Citibank was going ahead with a $50 million luxury jet purchase in spite of the fact that they couldn’t stay afloat without tax payers’ assistance. To be clear, they were incapable of running a profitable business, so they signed on for the billions of dollars of taxpayers’ money that our government gave them to keep them afloat.

This isn’t news. This is America at it’s best.

No form of media is safe from my simple minded attempts at humor.

Years ago, if you dealt with domain names in any way, your snail mailbox probably saw one of these pieces of mail at least once every couple of months.

Scamming pieces of shit would send out mail to publicly available registered owners of domains with what looked like a legitimate renewal bill for their domain.  You would pay them money and your domain wouldn’t get renewed.

Because, you know… they weren’t really your registrar.

They were scamming pieces of shit.  We had already established this.  Try to stick with me, mkay?

Well, the long, atrophied arm of the law came down on them and they got in big trouble for doing that.  The number of mails received went down drastically.

But the allure of an easy buck was just sitting there.  They didn’t want to do fake renewals any longer, since it was already skylined and therefore subject to the law of diminished returns, but they knew that there was some way to continue on in the same tradition.

Enter these geniuses:

In case you have some spare time left in your life

by schwim on Jan.19, 2009, under Miscellaneous

Remember the kid I told you about that made a really cool game?  The one with the goofy monacle? Petri Purho is his name and his specialty is viral games.

Well, Crayon Physics Deluxe has  been released and after playing it for a week or so, I can say without any reservations that it’s an absolute blast.

The concept is very simple.  You have a ball that you have to get from point A to point B in an environment by creating objects that effect it in the game world.  As the name suggests, you use the laws of physics to accomplish your goal.

The finish of the game is spectacular and the fan based maps are plentiful in case you finish all of the islands in one night.

If you don’t buy the game, you’re letting the commercial game companies win.

Not really, but you are an asshole.

I bet they farm the work out to India.

Swear to me you won’t steal this!

I needed a PHP calendar application for a client so did a search today:  “open source php calendar”.  Now for all the ignorant out there, the open source designator is not because we’re cheap.  Today I found a perfect example of why nobody should waste time with a closed source application.

One of my results for my search was the “Easy PHP Calendar“.  Please note that the word “Easy” is in the title.
