In case you have some spare time left in your life

Remember the kid I told you about that made a really cool game? The one with the goofy monacle? Petri Purho is his name and his specialty is viral games.
Well, Crayon Physics Deluxe has been released and after playing it for a week or so, I can say without any reservations that it’s an absolute blast.
The concept is very simple. You have a ball that you have to get from point A to point B in an environment by creating objects that effect it in the game world. As the name suggests, you use the laws of physics to accomplish your goal.
The finish of the game is spectacular and the fan based maps are plentiful in case you finish all of the islands in one night.
If you don’t buy the game, you’re letting the commercial game companies win.
Not really, but you are an asshole.

Would this be a bad time to mention the free and open source game (very similar) called “Numpty Physics” then?

Yeah … I checked on the Kloonigames forums and saw a thread regarding “ripoffs” of Crayon Physics Deluxe:

Apparently there are quite a few of them, but CPD is generally regarded as the best. Reply #10 in that topic has some good comparisons.

You know, I see nothing wrong with the copies. My rub has always been the attitude by some of the FOSS zealots; “Oh, he did something like this? Really? Huh. I had no idea.”
I’ve always found it humorous that those that hug the GNU agreement to get to sleep at night and cry when people don’t keep their name in code credits are the same ones to act like they pulled an application idea out of their ass while reading the Sunday comics when it’s blatantly obvious that they pulled the idea out of somebody else’s ass.
BTW, how you been, man?

Nothing beats Microsoft patenting the Page Up / Page Down keys …

In other news … I’m still unemployed, still scrambling to pay the mortgage, haven’t finished the deck, and the kid’s arthritis is flaring up again. Other than that we’re doing pretty good!
Found a few geocaches by accident recently while out and about … that’s always nice. And I’m holding this travelbug which I should really move to another cache before I’m overwhelmed with guilt for being slack about it!
