Hey Mr. Postman, look and see….

Some of you might remember me telling you about a bunch of Christians that decided to make money on their fellow bretheren’s beliefs that God would come down, smite the sinners and scoop up the believers, taking them up to Heaven to hang out and play volleyball.
Well, an athiest started a site concerning the same topic. Only difference was he did it as a joke but people started actually purchasing his services, so he began to take this business more seriously. Where he used to just sell t-shirts having fun at Christians’ expense, now his promise to you is that in the event that the rapture does occur, he and his band of athiests will hand deliver your letters to the people that you choose.
Initially, I always feel a pang when I see a group with one belief set mock another. It just seems juvenile and petty. In this case though, I just think of the incredible things done in the name of God and it’s a little harder to feel quite so badly for them. I can totally see where people have lost their ability to sit idly by while televangelists make millions and have sex with prostitutes while tending to their flock. It’s a little hard to stomach for those that aren’t caught up in the love of God.
In the end though, I guess it’s just the modus operandi for all involved. We spend our lives trying to show the other group the errors of their ways and in the event that it doesn’t work out, we mock them.
Frankly, it sounds like too much work to me.

Wierd. I was just on that same Wikipedia page a week or so ago. Great minds…… same gutter.
The issue was a HuffPost blog pondering the seeming paradox of a major poll that indicated Christians would favor the use of torture in certain circumstances slightly more than would non-Christians. I commented on the totally unsurprising nature of this data based on the opinion that “belief” resides in the same primal area of consciousness where fear resides. Some inquisition stuff helped with substantiation. Made perfectly good sense to me.
The comment was modded out. I tried again. Yep; mods.
There was nothing unseemly about my comment; i.e., language, mocking, subtle trolling. Nothing — just straight Sargeant Joe Friday presentation. So I sent them a note.
The reply was “too controversial.”
My reply was (essentially), “Gee. Short of being a complete a’hole I could not imagine how one might respond in a way more controversial than the original blog.” No reply from them.
I must have encountered the only Christian Righty at HuffPost.

I saw the same post I think last week. I don’t bother to post, but my first thought was very similar to yours. In written history, some of the most brutal slayings and atrocities were done in the name of God. Why should it surprise anyone that those tendencies still exist?
People like to think that we’re a more compassionate version of our ancestors, but in spite of our Dr. Scholl’s inserts and push-up bras, we are as mindlessly and inexplicably hateful and fearful as we’ve always been. With religion, you mix the two, which history has proven to be very dangerous.
For the guy on the receiving end, anyway

Well, besides the cash benefits of this scam, it’ll make some fun reading at the Christmas Party….(oops, scratch that)….
“Dear Cletus,
I’ve been taken to Heaven to spend Eternity with Jesus. Sorry you screwed up and were left behind. So, listen, even though I’m at Everlasting Peace, don’t you DARE give my Bassmaster to that a-hole Jeremy Schremp! That weasel still owes me $20.00 – Love, Dad”

I imagine I’m gonna get one like this:
