Don’t trust the man that doesn’t ask you to make his Beemer payment.

David Hall, a product manager for Symantec/Norton has asked that you don’t trust those “free” antivirus applications. They’re shifty.

Shocking that a top level executive for a bloated and mostly useless suite of applications would rather you pay the exorbitant price that they ask for their software, I know. I got a kick out of some of the quotes attributed to him though:

“If you are only relying on free antivirus to offer you protection in this modern age, you are not getting the protection you need to be able to stay clean and have a reasonable chance of avoiding identity theft”

and this gem:

“Imagine what it must be like for somebody who is not actually charging to be able to pay their security researchers to be able to keep up…..”

Awww, isn’t that sweet? When he asks you to purchase his overpriced software, he’s just thinking of the free application developers. They’re overworked.

The only reason this article even caught my eye is because I have seen brand new Windows installs crippled by nothing more than a Symantec or Norton security bundle installation. Long before the rest of the development community picked up the ball and ran with it, these guys were piling one shit app on top of another in an attempt to make the product statistics look impressive. Uninstalling the system was equally laughable, requiring you to grab an uninstaller off of the web. It was commonplace to have computer shops specifically tell you not to install any applications with the Symantec or Norton branding on it.

Maybe next time, he’ll ask us to think of the kids. That always seems to work.

And you were expecting what? Ethics? A conscience? http://www.bsa.org/country/BSA%20and%20Members.aspx

Nah. I didn’t think so either.

The hideous part about all this … is the grave dangers farced by our ever sweet and innocent young teenagers who are so horribly exposed to this steaming pile of cyber-dysfunction. And the unholy wasteland of the internet itself, too.

My God, man! Have you no heart? They are our FUTURE!

( … and therefore … I weep for both the World Wide Weirdness … and the species!)

    Evening, schwim. That good ’nuff?

I think that will do :)

It’s so hard to feel any sense of indignity anymore. This type of thing is too commonplace any longer.

Perhaps we should all be reading “The Communist Manifesto” again to keep up with the beemer boys who are feverishly reading “Mein Kampf”. :)
