But Satan makes the apples look so tasty!

by on Jul.17, 2009, under Miscellaneous

I will go to my grave without ever owning a product designed, manufactured or marketed by Apple.  This, I can promise you.

However, if anything could cause me to trample my beliefs, it would be this app. The police chief, Kathy Lanier calls it a cowardly tactic.  I call it the first useful iPhone app I’ve ever seen.

While she lets us know that the app  circumvents law enforcement put in place to protect ourselves, someone else had to mention that the prospected earnings for the cameras in that region for 2009 was just under $30 million. This of course, doesn’t take into account the increased revenue that the insurance companies would enjoy as well.

God bless the person that developed the app.  Although they are sure to rot in hell for all eternity for releasing it in the iStore, perhaps God will look down upon them favorably for their  good deeds and piss on them when He sees them aflame.

I’ve had something similar for ages. I have to pay an annual subscription of $49 (IIRC), but I get weekly updates of all speed and red-light camera/radar locations, including known usual mobile camera zones, plus known black spots, speed zone changes, etc. Also, I can go to a local website for minute-by-minute updates to spotted mobile camera/radar locations, but I rarely bother.

Despite that, I don’t (knowingly) speed or do anything else stupid on the road, but mistakes happen and I plan on never giving the bastards the satisfaction of imposing their draconian penalties for simple errors, or giving the Gestapo an excuse to get freaky with my personal privacy or liberty.

I don’t think I’d bother to check hot spots on the web before heading out as well. The genius lies behind notifying the driver in real time.

Except for the people that are paid to say the contrary, everyone knows that the cameras aren’t there for anyone’s safety. Were safety the driving force behind their actions, we would be dealing with a strictly points system on our license. Get enough points and you’re no longer driving. That’s pretty good motivation. They’ve stumbled upon a cash cow and they get all pissy when someone suggests a way to lessen your chance of getting a ticket.

The last ticket I received was for a seat belt infraction. After the officer apologized for having to give me the ticket, he explained the charges. Included was a $70 state court fee that was applied whether I went to court or not. Even if I decided not to utilize the court to dispute the ticket, I was paying for deciding to.

Yeah, any time I can get over on those fuckers, I’ll take it.
