Set phasers to “Flambé”

by on Aug.22, 2009, under Humorous

For those of you that think I take liberties to sensationalize and expand upon actual stories of incompetence, I will simply quote the opening of the article:

One day after officers received Tasers this week, two of them were patting out the flames on Daniel Wood, a 31-year-old homeless man who reportedly had been inhaling a chemical from a spray can to get high.

For those of you that didn’t give the article your full attention, I will abbreviate. In less than 24 hours after receiving them, police officers lit a man on fire with their shiny new Tasers.

The police chief set things straight:

“Clearly, this is not the way we’d hoped to get started,” Bailey said. “But I’m glad the suspect is OK, and this gives us an opportunity to review how we will do things from this point.”

So it wasn’t all wasted.  They get to use this experience to teach police officers not to light people on fire with their tasers.

You know, with just a little more skill and amperage, we can probably eliminate that whole arrest> formal charges> court appearance> trial> conviction> sentencing thing … and go straight from contempt of cop to “Ol’ Street Sparky” in one highly energy-efficient step.

It’s like he’s waiting for them to light him on fire again, isn’t it?
